Getting the “Glow” LIVING RAW FOOD

I Just got my latest Raw/Living Uncook Book in the mail and I am so excited. I’ve been wanting to get this one for months now. Sometimes I loiter around Barnes & Noble, or Bloomsbury Books in Ashland reading through the Health section, or flipping through raw books that I don’t already have. Since I’m on a bartering, exchange kick right now, I’ve decided not to purchase anything new unless I can trade for it. I’ve always enjoyed a good bargain, but this is a new level of creativity for me.

Here’s a perfect example- Since we’re prepping for an upcoming move, I’m in clean out – purge mode. We just don’t need some of the items we have. I had been wanting a cruiser bicycle for some time. I decided to post a barter trade on Craigslist and to my suprise, I had a new beach cruiser within 48 hours! My son and I went for a nice early ride this morning. I haven’t owned a bike in over 15 years, so this is really a treat for me.

Back to the book…I sold some books on Amazon and used that money to get this new book. YEAH! Sarma Melngailis writes in a way that makes you feel like Raw is easy, which it is but sometimes it looks complicated in how it’s presented. I haven’t been to New York, but when I go I will definately grab some food at her restaurant PURE FOOD AND WINE. I’m looking forward to making some of her Congo Bars and Coconut-Lime Cookies. I’ve lent out my dehydrator to a friend, so in the meantime, I’ll be making her KEY LIME PIE SHAKE for breakfast. Try it with me.

KEY LIME PIE SHAKE
1 1/2 cups fresh apple juice (3 apples any variety)
1/2 c fresh squeezed lime juice (3 limes)
1 ripe avocado
2 bananas
1 tsp vanilla extract (or fresh vanilla bean seeds)
2 Tbsp agave

Puree all ingredients in a blender and enjoy!

Raw Food Menu Week 1

I thought I’d give you an idea of what my first few days at High Raw looked like.

Day 1

Smoothie: spinach, coconut water, banana, kelp

Snack in the car: almonds & goji berries

Lunch: veggie burger on veggie bread (I prepared and dehydrated the night before) w/ lettuce, raw mustard and raw ketchup

Snack: squash chips, flax crackers, 1 apple

Dinner: I really wasn’t hungry, but I had a small salad and 1/2 cup of a smoothie.

Day 2

I juiced ginger/cucumber & 2 carrots then added a frozen banana, spinach and maca to make a delicious smoothie

Snack: almonds & lemon water

Lunch: small salad w/ veggie burber

Snack: 2 vanilla macroons (I made the night before) & 1 small banana

Dinner: squash spaghetti w/ tomato garlic sauce

Day 3

I woke up late so I took a small salad to eat on the way to work

Lunch: veggie burger/veggie bread/lettuce/tomato

Snack: smoothie ~ blueberries/banana/horsetail/maca/dates & juice pulp from day 2 am drink

cayenne flax crackers

just before dinner: almond bar (I made day prior)

walk in the park

Dinner: Jicama/lime nori wrap

I really got hooked on the veggie burgers. They were so filling and nutrient dense that it gave me a ton of energy and kept me full.

Homemade Raw Vegan Wraps

These were so delicious, even I was suprised. To make a great Raw Vegan Tomato Wrap, use the following:

2-3 tomatos

1/2 c. flaxseed meal

sea salt to taste

1 clove garlic

1 cup sunflower seeds

1/2 c. water

Blend in a high speed blender like a Vita-Mix. It should be thin enough to pour onto dehydrator sheets. If it’s too thick to pour, then add some extra water. Pour onto sheets and tap around each side until the wrap is thin and smooth. I used my excalibur and made 4 very large wraps with this amount of ingredients. Dehydrate @ 115 for 4 hours.

If you don’t want wraps, you can leave them in the dehydrator a bit longer and make chips out of them. These are great with some homemade hummus or cucumber dip.

Enjoy!

Fundraising: Want vs. Need

Today I was feeling compelled to talk about the things we find that we really want and we work hard to get. You get so close to acheiving your goal, then something comes up and changes your direction.

Want vs. Need. This is where I find myself today. I am very close to having raised all the money I needed to get the Almighty Vita-Mix dream machine. As it turns out, my husband needs some work done on his truck…so, there you have it. I found myself in a dilema. Should I start another fundraising venture for this need? I didn’t mention to him the money I had set aside for the Vita-Mix and I was feeling guilty, then I suddenly realized that I was the one who created this additional money and I could do it again. “Givers gain.” “Money flows to me easily and often”. This is an abundant Universe and I certainly will see the money flow back to me. We need to have the repairs done, but I Want the Vita Mix.

This brings me to the relevance of The RawMa Blog, Raw Food Nutrition and you. You WANT to be Healthy. You NEED to be Healthy. Your body is calling to you to create a sustainable environment for your health to live. You also WANT to enjoy the food that you eat but do you NEED to enjoy it that badly? Ahhh…now we’re getting somewhere.

You have a deep connection to food and it has taken control of your life. More to the point, you have allowed your mind to take control of your decisions. Ouch! That hurts. I know, because it happened to me.

Let me break it down for you. Here is what happened to me and maybe to you also:

Taste Buds and Mind automatic reflex –
WANT: Tasty Food, Chocolate, Sweets, Breads, Pasta, Alcohol, etc.
Feelings: Comfort, Safety, Peace
Results: Momentary bliss…then
bloating, guilt, weight gain, more guilt, discussions about it.

VS. NEED
Nutrition
Balance
Happiness
Peace
Resolved inner conflicts

Do the right thing for yourself. You deserve to live a long, happy life. The sacrafice you make today, could result in years added to your life and a ton of happiness and self-satisfaction knowing that YOU…ALL OF YOU – BODY-MIND-SOUL control your actions. You do not need to REACT to events around you. simply observe and let the good stuff stick to you as the bad passes you by. Do Not Engage in the Drama and it will not seek you out. Think about your wants and your needs then apply them to your life. Success can be yours.

Blessings,

RawMa

Raising Money Part II

I’m still working on raising money for the almighty Vita-Mix. I’m doing pretty well with it. I’m up to $210 so far. I’ll be making better Green Smoothies and Almond Butter in no time!

Speaking of SuperFoods, I have the dehydrator working overtime this evening. There is a tray of Sun Burgers, a tray of onion bread, a tray of Almond Bars and A tray of Apple cookies. All Raw of course. I can’t wait to eat tomorrow.

These recipies were really simple and only took a few minutes each to prepare. The key to staying raw for me is to make it as easy as possible for those moments when I am really hungry. If there are a few items prepared ahead of time, I am more likely to grab them instead of something un raw and unfood like. No nutrition, heavily processed food shoved into my mouth unconciously used to be my way of life, but I am living much more mindful these days and I sincerely hope you are too. Times are a changing and we must as well if we will intend to have a bright future that we control.

Blessings,

RawMa
