Getting the “Glow” LIVING RAW FOOD

I Just got my latest Raw/Living Uncook Book in the mail and I am so excited. I’ve been wanting to get this one for months now. Sometimes I loiter around Barnes & Noble, or Bloomsbury Books in Ashland reading through the Health section, or flipping through raw books that I don’t already have. Since I’m on a bartering, exchange kick right now, I’ve decided not to purchase anything new unless I can trade for it. I’ve always enjoyed a good bargain, but this is a new level of creativity for me.

Here’s a perfect example- Since we’re prepping for an upcoming move, I’m in clean out – purge mode. We just don’t need some of the items we have. I had been wanting a cruiser bicycle for some time. I decided to post a barter trade on Craigslist and to my suprise, I had a new beach cruiser within 48 hours! My son and I went for a nice early ride this morning. I haven’t owned a bike in over 15 years, so this is really a treat for me.

Back to the book…I sold some books on Amazon and used that money to get this new book. YEAH! Sarma Melngailis writes in a way that makes you feel like Raw is easy, which it is but sometimes it looks complicated in how it’s presented. I haven’t been to New York, but when I go I will definately grab some food at her restaurant PURE FOOD AND WINE. I’m looking forward to making some of her Congo Bars and Coconut-Lime Cookies. I’ve lent out my dehydrator to a friend, so in the meantime, I’ll be making her KEY LIME PIE SHAKE for breakfast. Try it with me.

KEY LIME PIE SHAKE
1 1/2 cups fresh apple juice (3 apples any variety)
1/2 c fresh squeezed lime juice (3 limes)
1 ripe avocado
2 bananas
1 tsp vanilla extract (or fresh vanilla bean seeds)
2 Tbsp agave

Puree all ingredients in a blender and enjoy!

Raw Food Packaging Celebrates Earth Day

As I celebrate Earth Day, I think about how easy it is to help the planet by eating whole foods aka raw foods. It’s simple, healthy, compostable and does a complete transition from beginning to end though their own renewable growth.

I wanted you to see this video from Sun Chips to encourage you raw business owners to look at your packaging. No, Sun Chips aren’t raw, but they are trying to set a good example of how a mass produced product can have earth friendly packaging. Your raw company can be environmentally responsible and keep you in integrity with creating your raw product. Simplicity is the key to a raw lifestyle and leaving a burden on the planet is not something I want to support, so from now on when I shop for raw food products, you bet I’ll be checking the packaging to see if it has the ability to be compostable.

I recommend as consumers that we encourage all companies to use these practices. I know it may not be cost effective for the small raw startup, but be mindful of the cradle to cradle practice and strive for excellence as we celebrate our planet.

Peace,

Rawma

Raw Thanksgiving

As I plan my Thanksgiving Menu, I am reminded about the choices that we all make and the way a habit can so deeply become engrained into our daily lives.

In a family of four, I am the only one who has really embraced the power of a raw food lifestyle. Although I vary in the degree of raw % on a daily basis, my intent is clear to incorporate cleaner food choices for myself and my family into everything that I make. Since we are having company this holiday, and they each have very traditional SAD diets, I have decided to gently present RAW choices that are delicious and simple so everyone can enjoy the benefits without feeling the pressure of eating what the hostess prepares even if they don’t like it. That’s really the joy of Raw preparation. Pretty much everyone likes the ingredients, but they have never tried them together in a dish that hasn’t been cooked. For example, cooked carrots, peas and beans. Many people eat them cooked, but haven’t had the pleasure of a fresh sweet crunchy pea. Make selections this holiday that will showcase the simplicity of Raw and give your company a suprise with the new twist on traditional dishes, or add in a new dish like Matt Amsden’s cauliflower couscous, or fresh cranberry salad.

Tell me about your Raw Thanksgiving Menu.

30 Day 100% Raw Challenge

Well, after many months of 80% raw, I was feeling the need for a body cleanse. The best way to clean out your system is to go hard core 100% raw. In order to get the full benefits and feel the bliss of the raw living vegan food lifestyle, you have to just do it…for a minimum of 30 days. You will be glowing in no time at all.
I hope you join me in this adventure. I officially started Sept. 1st, so I am on day 4 and it’s a breeze so far. The key to make this work for you is a little forethought and minimum prep work.

I’ll be posting my daily food diary so you can get an idea of how I’m making it work. I’m enjoying seeing people’s response to what I’m eating. Once I share a tried and true treat with them, they really get interested.

There is still a huge misconception of what “Raw” actually means. It doesn’t sound that appealing, especially if someone doesn’t know you that well. They may assume you eat raw meat. I’m personally a raw vegan at best, but mostly raw vegitarian. I know my body doesn’t do well with dairy, but my mind struggles with cheese. This 30 day cleanse has already brought me amazing clarity, courage, confidence and better outlook on my day. I can’t encourage you enough to give it a shot. If you’re new to this, don’t be affraid. You can do it.

RawUnion

THE RAW event of the year has just wrapped up. Angelic looking Angela Stokes and Raw Hottie Matt Monarch got hitched by the one and only Godfather of Raw himself, David Wolfe. The setting was on the most beautiful, serene organic farm in Southern Oregon. I was at the festivities on Saturday and had a chance to meet and greet many of the ecstatic raw enthusiasts, amazing raw vendors and simply feeling the love in the air made me high. It was a powerful time and one that I hope will continue on an annual basis as Matt and Angel celebrate their many happy future years together.

Blessings to you both. You Rawk!
