Face Plant!

No, I didn’t just fall down. I was just thinking about my evening face mask. Sexy huh? I know you’re expecting me to tell you all about my Raw Food day, what I ate, how I planned the family meals, etc., but all I can think about is what I want on my face tonight.

If you don’t already know it, you will soon. RAW IS SEXY! Think about it…You are a living being, You were born perfect, You were born beautiful, You were born pure and ecstatic, full of life. Raw food, aka whole food, aka living food is what your living body needs. A ripe, red, plump apple grown on a tree in soil that is rich and untreated that you just picked from the tree. You wipe it off and take a bite…now that’s sexy! Or…

You drive to the market, push your cart down the dairy aisle to get your processed cheese slices wrapped in petroleum-based plastic for your sandwich on processed bread that has been “enriched” because the process of making the bread removed its original nutrients…need I say more? There is Nothing sexy about processed food. Not only is it not sexy, but it makes me fat, tired and miserable along with millions of other people.

Raw Food is food in its most natural, pure state grown with the warmth of the sun allowing it to mature naturally then consumed while it still has its life force in tact is simply amazing.

We are fast approaching a time of necessity for change in our thinking. No longer should we ask “how will it taste?” But rather “how will it heal?” We are all in need of healing. It may be physical, mental or emotional but we all need it. Face it, life is tough sometimes and we live in a fairly toxic world, but the healing power of food in its blissful living state can help us ward off some of the environmental damage.

This leads me to my weekly routine of the Face Plant. I’ve been not only drinking greens for some time, but I find that sometimes my body craves a soaking through my skin as well. Yes, I know that sounds bizarre, but I have seen improvement in my joint pain from soaking my feet in greens. It usually gives me a boost of energy as well.

Since our skin is our largest organ and absorbs whatever is placed on it, I use it to my advantage. It may be coconut oil on my legs and arms, greens on my feet, turmeric on a sore spot, but my favorite is my face. This is where I really get to play. Since I look at my face everyday, I can try different foods to see what my skin likes.

I know cacao is supposed to be amazing, but I haven’t tried it yet. I like to eat my cacao. What I do love on my face is a blend of aloe vera, acai and raw honey. They each have anti-inflamatory, antioxidant and medicinal properties.

I love the skin healing power of aloe and I’m hoping to fight off fine lines in the process. The acai pulp causes the skin to tighten and the raw honey has bacteria fighting power to keep blemishes away.

Slice an aloe leaf and blend the gel along with acai and raw honey. Smear it all over your face and leave it for at least 15 minutes.

You are beautiful!

Sprouting Seeds

There are many different seeds you can sprout. Pick the ones you love and begin to play with your living food. The health benefits are tremendous when you eat sprouts of all kinds. I like to sprout sunflower seeds and lentils. After drying them out, I sprinkle with my favorite seasoning so I can snack on them throughout the day.

Directions to Sprout Sunflower Seeds
Here are the basic steps to sprout sunflower seeds.

Purchase sunflower seeds for sprouting: To make sunflower seed sprouts, you must start with organic, hulled sunflower seeds. The kind you can buy at the grocery store are usually roasted and salted or at the least, just roasted, which kills the enzymes inside the sprout, making them unable to grow. There are plenty of sources for sunflower seeds: Health food stores, grocery chains such as Whole Foods Markets and Fresh Fields, and online sources such as Sprout People.
Cull the bad seeds: After purchasing the seeds, go through the seeds and remove any that are discolored or look funny. Rinse the seeds under cool water. It may be helpful to place the seeds in a fine mesh strainer, rinse, then pour them into your bowl or sprouting jar.
Find a sprouting bowl or jar: Sunflower seeds sprouts can be sprouted in a plain ceramic or glass bowl, or you can use a Mason jar or sprouting jar. Because they soak rather than sprout, you will only need to keep them in water for a few hours before they’re ready to eat.
Pour about 1 cup of seeds into the bowl. If you think that will make too much for you to eat, reduce the amounts but keep the proportion of 1 to 3 (1 portion of seeds to 3 portions of water).
Add 3 cups of cool water.
Soak for two hours.
Drain the water.
Rinse with cool water
Enjoy…they’re ready to eat!
Sunflower seed sprouts should never develop leaves or roots. Look for sprouts that just have a bit peeking out from the seeds. That’s a sign of a good, wholesome, nutritious sprout.

Storage
If you must, you can store sunflower seed sprouts for a few days but they don’t store well. The secret to longer storage is to pat them dry and store them in a cool spot in the fridge. Cover the glass bowl or jar or pour the sprouts into a plastic bag to store them.

Enjoy!

Fundraising: Want vs. Need

Today I was feeling compelled to talk about the things we find that we really want and we work hard to get. You get so close to acheiving your goal, then something comes up and changes your direction.

Want vs. Need. This is where I find myself today. I am very close to having raised all the money I needed to get the Almighty Vita-Mix dream machine. As it turns out, my husband needs some work done on his truck…so, there you have it. I found myself in a dilema. Should I start another fundraising venture for this need? I didn’t mention to him the money I had set aside for the Vita-Mix and I was feeling guilty, then I suddenly realized that I was the one who created this additional money and I could do it again. “Givers gain.” “Money flows to me easily and often”. This is an abundant Universe and I certainly will see the money flow back to me. We need to have the repairs done, but I Want the Vita Mix.

This brings me to the relevance of The RawMa Blog, Raw Food Nutrition and you. You WANT to be Healthy. You NEED to be Healthy. Your body is calling to you to create a sustainable environment for your health to live. You also WANT to enjoy the food that you eat but do you NEED to enjoy it that badly? Ahhh…now we’re getting somewhere.

You have a deep connection to food and it has taken control of your life. More to the point, you have allowed your mind to take control of your decisions. Ouch! That hurts. I know, because it happened to me.

Let me break it down for you. Here is what happened to me and maybe to you also:

Taste Buds and Mind automatic reflex –
WANT: Tasty Food, Chocolate, Sweets, Breads, Pasta, Alcohol, etc.
Feelings: Comfort, Safety, Peace
Results: Momentary bliss…then
bloating, guilt, weight gain, more guilt, discussions about it.

VS. NEED
Nutrition
Balance
Happiness
Peace
Resolved inner conflicts

Do the right thing for yourself. You deserve to live a long, happy life. The sacrafice you make today, could result in years added to your life and a ton of happiness and self-satisfaction knowing that YOU…ALL OF YOU – BODY-MIND-SOUL control your actions. You do not need to REACT to events around you. simply observe and let the good stuff stick to you as the bad passes you by. Do Not Engage in the Drama and it will not seek you out. Think about your wants and your needs then apply them to your life. Success can be yours.

Blessings,

RawMa
