Getting the “Glow” LIVING RAW FOOD

I Just got my latest Raw/Living Uncook Book in the mail and I am so excited. I’ve been wanting to get this one for months now. Sometimes I loiter around Barnes & Noble, or Bloomsbury Books in Ashland reading through the Health section, or flipping through raw books that I don’t already have. Since I’m on a bartering, exchange kick right now, I’ve decided not to purchase anything new unless I can trade for it. I’ve always enjoyed a good bargain, but this is a new level of creativity for me.

Here’s a perfect example- Since we’re prepping for an upcoming move, I’m in clean out – purge mode. We just don’t need some of the items we have. I had been wanting a cruiser bicycle for some time. I decided to post a barter trade on Craigslist and to my suprise, I had a new beach cruiser within 48 hours! My son and I went for a nice early ride this morning. I haven’t owned a bike in over 15 years, so this is really a treat for me.

Back to the book…I sold some books on Amazon and used that money to get this new book. YEAH! Sarma Melngailis writes in a way that makes you feel like Raw is easy, which it is but sometimes it looks complicated in how it’s presented. I haven’t been to New York, but when I go I will definately grab some food at her restaurant PURE FOOD AND WINE. I’m looking forward to making some of her Congo Bars and Coconut-Lime Cookies. I’ve lent out my dehydrator to a friend, so in the meantime, I’ll be making her KEY LIME PIE SHAKE for breakfast. Try it with me.

KEY LIME PIE SHAKE
1 1/2 cups fresh apple juice (3 apples any variety)
1/2 c fresh squeezed lime juice (3 limes)
1 ripe avocado
2 bananas
1 tsp vanilla extract (or fresh vanilla bean seeds)
2 Tbsp agave

Puree all ingredients in a blender and enjoy!

Raw Food Packaging Celebrates Earth Day

As I celebrate Earth Day, I think about how easy it is to help the planet by eating whole foods aka raw foods. It’s simple, healthy, compostable and does a complete transition from beginning to end though their own renewable growth.

I wanted you to see this video from Sun Chips to encourage you raw business owners to look at your packaging. No, Sun Chips aren’t raw, but they are trying to set a good example of how a mass produced product can have earth friendly packaging. Your raw company can be environmentally responsible and keep you in integrity with creating your raw product. Simplicity is the key to a raw lifestyle and leaving a burden on the planet is not something I want to support, so from now on when I shop for raw food products, you bet I’ll be checking the packaging to see if it has the ability to be compostable.

I recommend as consumers that we encourage all companies to use these practices. I know it may not be cost effective for the small raw startup, but be mindful of the cradle to cradle practice and strive for excellence as we celebrate our planet.

Peace,

Rawma

The Truth about Fruit & Veggies

A
sliced Carrot looks like the human eye.
The pupil, iris and radiating lines look
just like the human eye… And YES, science now
shows carrots greatly enhance blood flow
to and function of the eyes.

A
Tomato has four chambers and is red. The
heart has four chambers and is red. All of the
research shows tomatoes
are loaded with lycopine and are indeed pure
heart and blood food.

Grapes hang
in a cluster that has the shape of the heart.
Each grape looks like a blood cell and all of
the research today shows grapes are also
profound heart and blood vitalizing
food.

A Walnut looks like a little
brain, a left and right hemisphere, upper
cerebrums and lower cerebellums. Even the
wrinkles or folds on the nut are just like
the neo-cortex. We now know walnuts help develop
more than three (3) dozen
neuron-transmitters for brain
function.

Kidney
Beans actually heal and help maintain kidney
function and yes, they look exactly like the
human kidneys.

Celery, Bok Choy, Rhubarb and many
more look just like bones. These foods
specifically target bone strength. Bones are 23%
sodium and these foods are 23% sodium. If you
don’t have enough sodium in your diet, the body
pulls it from the bones, thus making them
weak. These foods replenish the skeletal
needs of the body.

Avocadoes,
Eggplant and Pears target the health and
function of the womb and cervix of the female –
they look just like these organs. Today’s
research shows that when a woman eats one
avocado a week, it balances hormones, sheds
unwanted birth weight, and prevents cervical
cancers. And how profound is this? It
takes exactly nine (9) months to grow an avocado
from blossom to ripened fruit. There are over
14,000 photolytic chemical constituents of
nutrition in each one of these foods (modern
science has only studied and named about 141 of
them).

Figs
are full of seeds and hang in twos when they
grow. Figs increase the mobility of male
sperm and increase the numbers of Sperm as well
to overcome male sterility.

Sweet Potatoes look
like the pancreas and actually balance the
glycemic index of diabetics.

Olives assist
the health and function of the
ovaries

Oranges, Grapefruits,
and other Citrus fruits look just like the
mammary glands of the female and actually assist
the health of the breasts and the movement of
lymph in and out of the breasts.

Onions look
like the body’s cells. Today’s research shows
onions help clear waste materials from all of
the body cells. They even produce tears which
wash the epithelial layers of the eyes. A
working companion, Garlic, also helps eliminate
waste materials and dangerous free radicals from
the body.

Update to the Raw Vegan Chocolate Mousse

I thought the Chocolate Mousse was awesome once I made it, but I put it in the fridge and kind of forgot about it until the next morning. Once I took a bite of the refrigerated version, I had a flash back to the fudge in the cookies I loved as a kid. Before I went to work, I decided to make some almond cookies so I would be able to use this mousse/fudge in a cookie.

My typical almond cookie consistes of:
1/2 c raw almonds
agave and/or 3-4 dates
2 tbsp. coconut oil
1/2 vanilla bean or vanilla extract (alcohol free)
blend all in a food processor
form into small balls and flatten out into a cookie shape, or spread it all onto a dehydrator sheet and cut into squares before dehydrating.
Dehydrate @ 115 for 6 hours

When I got home from work, the cookies were done so I gave myself a treat by taking 2 cookies and placing the fudge in the middle to make a Raw sandwich cookie! Super Yummy.

Raising Money Part II

I’m still working on raising money for the almighty Vita-Mix. I’m doing pretty well with it. I’m up to $210 so far. I’ll be making better Green Smoothies and Almond Butter in no time!

Speaking of SuperFoods, I have the dehydrator working overtime this evening. There is a tray of Sun Burgers, a tray of onion bread, a tray of Almond Bars and A tray of Apple cookies. All Raw of course. I can’t wait to eat tomorrow.

These recipies were really simple and only took a few minutes each to prepare. The key to staying raw for me is to make it as easy as possible for those moments when I am really hungry. If there are a few items prepared ahead of time, I am more likely to grab them instead of something un raw and unfood like. No nutrition, heavily processed food shoved into my mouth unconciously used to be my way of life, but I am living much more mindful these days and I sincerely hope you are too. Times are a changing and we must as well if we will intend to have a bright future that we control.

Blessings,

RawMa

SUPERBOWL BLUES TRUE TEST OF STRENGTH

So today was SUPERBOWL SUNDAY and in the past I have made very merry of myself. This year though, I had moments of clarity and what family and friends really mean to us. Here I was watching the not so creative (in my opinion) commercials and my mother hands me a plate of mini-pizzas, fried mozarella and greasy chips with cream cheese/chilli dip.

I think the look on my face must have scared her a little, but she still didn’t stop for one moment to think about what she was trying to feed me. Here I am her baby girl and she is showing her love by filling me up with artery stopping, pore clogging, weight gaining fatty “food”. HELP! I love my mom, but I really think she has selective hearing and maybe her vision isn’t so great either since – 1. I am Vegan and 2. I am always showing her healthier ways to eat. Is this a Test? Is it oblivion? I don’t know for sure, but I do know that I am happy to report that only a slight bit of this badness entered my body today along with a lot of water and enzymes to wash me out. I don’t mean to put you off by saying that I never eat this way. Many people do and that it their choice. I’m just saying that if one has spent a great deal of time educating and explaining her position to those around her, maybe, just maybe out of simple respect, someone could serve up a salad…or anything else resembling food?! Ok, enough about me…how was your SUPERBOWL?
