30 Day 100% Raw Challenge

Well, after many months of 80% raw, I was feeling the need for a body cleanse. The best way to clean out your system is to go hard core 100% raw. In order to get the full benefits and feel the bliss of the raw living vegan food lifestyle, you have to just do it…for a minimum of 30 days. You will be glowing in no time at all.
I hope you join me in this adventure. I officially started Sept. 1st, so I am on day 4 and it’s a breeze so far. The key to make this work for you is a little forethought and minimum prep work.

I’ll be posting my daily food diary so you can get an idea of how I’m making it work. I’m enjoying seeing people’s response to what I’m eating. Once I share a tried and true treat with them, they really get interested.

There is still a huge misconception of what “Raw” actually means. It doesn’t sound that appealing, especially if someone doesn’t know you that well. They may assume you eat raw meat. I’m personally a raw vegan at best, but mostly raw vegitarian. I know my body doesn’t do well with dairy, but my mind struggles with cheese. This 30 day cleanse has already brought me amazing clarity, courage, confidence and better outlook on my day. I can’t encourage you enough to give it a shot. If you’re new to this, don’t be affraid. You can do it.

Chia Seeds

Chia Seeds are becoming very popular in the Raw food World. Rightfully so, this wonderful little seed has an abundance of nutrients, yet has been neglected by mainstream for years…with the exception of the Chia Pet. I always wanted one of those. Now after eating Chia seeds, I see how they stick to the surface. This is a huge benefit for our digestive system.

Chia is very rich in omega-3 fatty acids, even more so than flax seeds. And it has another advantage over flax: chia is so rich in antioxidants that the seeds don’t deteriorate and can be stored for long periods without becoming rancid. And, unlike flax, they do not have to be ground to make their nutrients available to the body. Chia seeds also provide fiber (25 grams give you 6.9 grams of fiber) as well as calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, manganese, copper, iron, molybdenum, niacin, and zinc.

Another advantage: when added to water and allowed to sit for 30 minutes, chia forms a gel. Researchers suggest that this reaction also takes place in the stomach, slowing the process by which digestive enzymes break down carbohydrates and convert them into sugar.

What is Gelatin?

I am totally grossed out right now. My son and I were going to make a healthy version of homemade vanilla ice cream and began looking on the web for some new ideas. We found one recipe that called for Gelatin.

That got me thinking…hmmm? What exactly is Gelatin? I did several searches and this response is the most frequent that came up.
“The gelatin you eat comes from the collagen in cow or pig bones, hooves, and connective tissues. To make gelatin, manufacturers grind up these various parts and pre-treat them with either a strong acid or a strong base to break down cellular structures and release proteins like collagen. After pre-treatment, the resulting mixture is boiled. During this process, the large collagen protein ends up being partially broken down, and the resulting product is called gelatin. The gelatin is easily extracted because it forms a layer on the surface of the boiling mixture.”

This sounds like a horror flick! Is this really what Gelatin is made from? Exactly who’s bright idea was this?

All I can say is if it’s true, it is wrong, evil and disgusting.

Once again I say, we ALL need to Re-Think about what we are putting into our bodies and serving our children. Jello – never again! This is yet one more argument for going the Whole Food route!

Raising Money Part II

I’m still working on raising money for the almighty Vita-Mix. I’m doing pretty well with it. I’m up to $210 so far. I’ll be making better Green Smoothies and Almond Butter in no time!

Speaking of SuperFoods, I have the dehydrator working overtime this evening. There is a tray of Sun Burgers, a tray of onion bread, a tray of Almond Bars and A tray of Apple cookies. All Raw of course. I can’t wait to eat tomorrow.

These recipies were really simple and only took a few minutes each to prepare. The key to staying raw for me is to make it as easy as possible for those moments when I am really hungry. If there are a few items prepared ahead of time, I am more likely to grab them instead of something un raw and unfood like. No nutrition, heavily processed food shoved into my mouth unconciously used to be my way of life, but I am living much more mindful these days and I sincerely hope you are too. Times are a changing and we must as well if we will intend to have a bright future that we control.

Blessings,

RawMa

Raw Food Coach

I am so excited this morning. I was lucky enough to attend a wonderful Raw Business Class last night. I learned some really great things to help me in my business. Shout out to Karen. You Rock!

This morning, although I am excited about my future in the Business of Raw, my body feels very tired, so off I go to create a wonderful green drink. I’ll be blending:

Spinach
lemon
banana
water
to create a powerful burst of energy for myself. My cells will thank me in about 20 minutes!

Have a fabulous RAW day!
